Dr. Susan L. Nelson, VMD

Medical Director & Co-Founder

Dr. Susan is Chief Veterinarian and Co-Founder. A native of western Pennsylvania, she attended Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. She moved to Vermont after graduation in 1990, settled in the Derby area and raised raised her family.  For 18 years she practiced large & small animal medicine/surgery as an Associate Veterinarian before Co-Founding Nelson Veterinary Associates in 2007.  She is a 40 year member of the AVMA and the VVMA. When she is not in the clinic, she enjoys loving up on her kitties, gardening and going to concerts. Fun facts about Dr. Susan: she loves a good meme, and has never met a piece of dark chocolate she didn’t like.

Andrea nelson, AAS, BS, LVT

Managing Director & Co-Founder

Andrea is a Licensed Veterinary Technician with 25 years of clinical experience and Co-Founder of Nelson Veterinary.  She earned her A.A.S. in Veterinary Science from State University of New York, Delhi and her B.S. in Animal Science from Cornell University.  After taking a seven-year hiatus from veterinary medicine to manage a family law practice and study for the Vermont Bar, Andrea never lost sight of her ultimate goal in life: owning and operating a veterinary hospital. The skills she gained in law and business have become invaluable in running a thriving clinic. She now splits her time in the clinic between providing nursing care, practice management and problem solving. She has a special interest in diagnostic imaging and dentistry. When she is not in the clinic you will find her tucked deep in the maple woods with her husband, three children and two Giant Schnauzers. Fun facts about Andrea: she is a former national champion cyclist, loves board sports and has a knack for making us laugh.

Danielle Teehan, DVM

Pamela Parkinson, BS, CVT

Pam received her B.S. in Animal Science, with a focus in Dairy Management from Pennsylvania State University. After working in the dairy industry for several years, Pam and her husband settled in Vermont where they raised their son. Pam earned her Certification in Veterinary Technology through Vermont’s in clinic study program. Pam is a talented trainer and holds many certifications in behavior and training . When she is not in the clinic, you will find her hiking with her pack or holding training classes at her home. A fun fact about Pam is, we swear she can telepathically communicate with some of our less than cooperative feline patients. She some how encourages good behavior from the most fractious cats.

Amanda graduated from the University of Maine in 2025 with a B.S. in Animal Science. From client liaison to patient advocacy and care, you will find Amanda immersed in all facets of clinic life. She has always loved caring for animals and plans to further her veterinary nursing education. A fun fact about Amanda is, she has been a competitive dancer for most of her life. She was even a member of the UMaine dance team!

Torie Bingham, AAS, CVT

Dr. Dani, a native Vermonter, graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015 before completing an equine surgical internship in southwestern Pennsylvania. She then remained in equine practice, honing her diagnostic and surgical skills. In 2018, she returned home to Vermont to be closer to her family and transitioned to small animal medicine. For the past eight years, she has been caring for pets throughout the Northeast Kingdom. When Dr. Dani is not in the clinic, you will find her enjoying the outdoors, riding and training her rescue horse and loving on her kitties Beaker and Nessie. A fun fact about Dr. Dani is she is also mechanically minded. She performs her own vehicle maintenance, changing the oil and replacing brake components! Very impressive.

VETERINARY TECHNICIANS

Torie received her A.A.S. in Veterinary Technology from Vermont Technical College and has proudly served the community she grew up in for over two decades. Her warmth and humor are greatly appreciated by everyone she encounters. She has a special interest in feline medicine and excels in dentistry. When she is not in the clinic you will find her at a sporting event for one of her three very athletic children, boating with the family or playing referee for her very (read overly) friendly German Shepherd, Eko and her unimpressed Mainecoon cat. A fun fact about Torie is, she developed an aptitude for handling aggressive dogs by living with and handling police canines!
